Toddlers

Everything at once: language, legs and opinions

Toddlers are working out that they're separate people with their own ideas. Our rooms give them room to test that safely, and educators with the patience it genuinely requires.

The approach

Independence, offered on purpose

Toddlers serve their own food, carry their own plates, wash their own hands and pull on their own hats. It takes longer and it makes more mess, and it's exactly how a child comes to believe they're capable.

Language explodes at this age, so our educators narrate, question and wait. The waiting is the skill, giving a child the four seconds they need to find the word themselves.

Big feelings are expected here. We don't punish them; we help children build the vocabulary and strategies to move through them.

Outdoors

Bodies that need to move, all day

Our yards are set up for climbing, digging, balancing, carrying and running, because gross motor development at this age isn't a break from learning, it is the learning.

Toddlers also join age-appropriate outdoor excursions, building the confidence that turns into full Bush Kinder and Beach Kinder participation later.

Questions

What toddler families ask

How do you handle big toddler emotions?
We treat a meltdown as communication, not misbehaviour. Educators stay calm and close, name the feeling, and help the child find another way through. Consistency between home and here matters, so we talk with you about the approach.
Can you help with toilet learning?
Yes, and we follow your lead. When you start at home, we support the same approach here, without pressure and without shame about accidents.
When does my child move to the next room?
When they're ready, socially, physically and emotionally, not on a birthday. Transitions are gradual, with visits to the new room alongside a familiar educator, and we talk with you before it happens.

The best way to know is to walk through the door

Tours run during the day so you can see the rooms as they really are, busy, calm, noisy, happy. Bring your child. Ask us anything.
